Seeks INEC registration

A new political movement, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has formally applied for registration as a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move, spearheaded by top opposition figures, signals a coordinated effort to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

The application, dated June 19 and received by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on June 20, 2025, was submitted by the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) —a bloc of influential politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir el-Rufa’i, former Senate President David Mark, and Dr. Umar Arɗo.

In a letter co-signed by Chief Akin A. Ricketts (Protem National Chairman) and Abdullahi Musa Elayo (Protem National Secretary), the coalition stated its intention to register ADA as a political party, with “Justice for All” as its official slogan.

“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party”, the letter said. “This is sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration”.

Attached to the application were the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, slogan, flag, and minutes of foundational meetings, in compliance with Section 75 of the Electoral Act, 2022. The coalition emphasized that ADA’s framework is designed to uphold constitutional values, promote equity, and offer a fresh political alternative.

According to insiders, the coalition had earlier considered adopting existing party platforms like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but ultimately chose to float a new party. The decision was based on recommendations by a high-level committee led by Rotimi Amaechi, which argued that a new platform would ensure fairness and broad-based ownership.

Former Senate President David Mark is reportedly serving as ADA’s interim national chairman. A senior coalition member described ADA as “more than a political party; it’s a rescue mission to restore justice, inclusion, and good governance”.

INEC is currently reviewing dozens of party registration applications, and no official decision has yet been made regarding ADA’s status.

The emergence of the All Democratic Alliance introduces a potential third force into Nigeria’s political arena, offering an alternative for voters dissatisfied with the current political order.
